Prospective Cohort Study Finds Both Artificially Sweetened Beverages and Sugary Drinks Associated with Increased Cardiovascular Disease Risk
A recent study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that high daily intakes (>176mL/6oz) of both sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) and artificially sweetened beverages (ASB) were associated with higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Therefore, it is recommended to encourage patients to limit both ASB and SSB, while emphasizing water intake.
Experts at Ohio's seven medical schools identify, produce, and disseminate the latest evidence-based cardiovascular and diabetes best practices.
