Shari Bolen, MD, MPH
Co-PI, Ohio Cardiovascular Health Collaborative; Associate Professor of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine
Dr. Bolen is a practicing general internist who co-leads the Population Health Science Unit in the Center for Health Care Research and Policy at The MetroHealth System. Her research interests include cardiovascular risk reduction, with an emphasis on improving health systems and linking clinics with community resources to improve the cardiovascular health of subpopulations. She also has a methods expertise in systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Leading the development of a curriculum to support hypertension quality improvement work in primary care, Dr. Bolen serves as Director of Cardiovascular Disease Programs for a regional health improvement collaborative called Better Health Partnership. In that role, she recently led a successful regional quality improvement initiative to improve rates of blood pressure control and reduce disparities in more than 20 safety-net practices across five health systems in Northeast Ohio. She also has experience with longitudinal data analyses of electronic health records and claims data along with mixed methods approaches to understanding the complexity of chronic disease care. Dr. Bolen was recently appointed to the National Clinical Care Commission to assist in advising the Department of Health and Human Services on gaps in federal programs for adults with diabetes. Her primary goal is to contribute to improving the cardiovascular health of the communities she serves.
