Dr. Lance Dworkin is the Mercy Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences.
Dr. Dworkin conducts laboratory research on the mechanisms of progressive kidney failure and its prevention. He is also a clinical investigator. He was the study chair for the CORAL trial, a large, multicenter, randomized clinical trial funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute that compared outcomes in patients with atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS) treated medically with those that also receive stent revascularization. The results of the CORAL trial were published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2014.
Dr. Dworkin has published over 100 articles on a variety of topics in kidney disease and hypertension, including mechanisms of kidney inflammation and fibrosis and on outcomes and therapy of patients with ARAS. He has also authored more than 50 book chapters and review articles focusing on topics such as renal microcirculation, glomerular hemodynamics in health and disease, and mechanisms of acute and chronic kidney injury.
