Shari Bolen, MD, MPH

Dr. Bolen is a Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and a practicing general internist who directs the Population Health Research Institute and the Center for Health Care Research and Policy at The MetroHealth System. Dr. Bolen also serves as Director of Cardiovascular Disease Programs for a regional health improvement collaborative called Better Health Partnership. Her research interests include cardiovascular risk reduction, with an emphasis on improving health systems and linking clinics with community resources to improve the cardiovascular health of subpopulations. She also has a methods expertise in systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Dr. Bolen has successfully led regional and statewide quality improvement efforts to improve cardiovascular risk reduction and reduce disparities in cardiovascular outcomes. She has experience with longitudinal data analyses of electronic health records and claims data, along with mixed methods approaches to understanding the complexity of chronic disease care. Dr. Bolen was recently part of a National Clinical Care Commission that developed a report to Congress on gaps in federal programs for adults with diabetes, and continues to serve on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Hypertension Control Roundtable. Her primary goal is to contribute to improving the cardiovascular health of the communities she serves.
