Shared decision making (SDM) is the process by which the patient and family, along with the clinician, reach an agreement about a plan of care and treatment. This resource provides clinicians with a guide for implementing two SDM strategies, motivational interviewing and minimally disruptive medicine, and an associated technique, teach-back, in clinical practice.
