Summary

Prevalence of youth-onset type 2 diabetes is rising in the population, especially in racial and ethnic minorities. This document highlights distinguishing characteristics of youth-onset type 2 diabetes and identifies the most vulnerable patients in need of screening. Also included is a review of treatment options, detail on how to identify those patients at highest risk of requiring insulin, and a discussion of the rapid development of complications in this population.
